Pine Valley or Bust

Why me? Why me?!? When did flying become my enemy? You wouldn’t believe this, but we have been stuck at the Denver International Airport for hours! There were no direct flights back to Pine Valley on such short notice, so we flew into Denver early this morning. Almost 10 hours later, we’re still here! Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely airport — but it’s not how I wanted to spend my day. I’ve been watching Jack pace back and forth. He’s so anxious to get back to Greenlee. I understand … his devotion shows me why I love him so. Our trip around the world was so beautiful; I still can’t pick a favorite moment, but what I do know is that Jack is the man for me.

I’d love to rub Jack’s back and get him to relax, but I know I have to let him be for a while. He just looks so tired. I do love his scruffy beard, though. It’s so cute. He reminds me a little of Caleb. I wonder what he’s doing right now as I’m stuck in this airport …

I’m going to put this phone away and get another cup of coffee. I may even treat myself to a scone. I’ve earned it!

Keeping my head up. See you in Pine Valley!

There’s No Place Like Home

That old saying, “All good things must come to an end,” keeps ringing in my ears. Jack and I are in San Francisco right now, but we are on our way to the airport to catch the next flight back to Pine Valley. A few hours ago, we got a call telling us that Greenlee had been arrested for David Hayward’s death. The past few weeks have been difficult on both of our daughters, so we decided that it’s time to get back to reality.

Of course I’m excited to reunite with my family and friends, but I am going to miss Jack and me living in our own little world. We’re closer than ever, and I know that’s because we’ve been able to escape all of the pressures and drama that come with living in Pine Valley. I thought about this yesterday — when I was graduating from PVH, I had no intentions of sticking around Pine Valley. Now, here I am all these years later. I guess that other old saying is true as well: “What you resist, persists.”

I’m going finish packing. I hope Greenlee appreciates what we’re doing for her.

Next stop … home!

My New Career?

Vancouver, I do love you — but I cannot stay. Tomorrow, Jackson and I will be hopping a flight to San Francisco. It’s hard to believe that I haven’t been on U.S. soil since July! For me, time has stood still … but so much has happened since I decided to leave Pine Valley for an extended vacation.

What’s even harder to believe is that they haven’t brought David Hayward’s killer to justice yet. What does Liza Colby do all day as District Attorney? She wasn’t particularly stellar as a station manager at WRCW, so I was hoping this new career direction would be good for her — but I’m having my doubts. Pine Valley didn’t seem to have all of these problems when my fiancé was D.A. I’m just thankful that my daughter Kendall and our dear friend Ryan Lavery are not in jail for this crime. I know what it’s like to be falsely accused. I still think about the time I had to go on the run because people assumed I had killed Kent Bogard! Let’s be honest — David had so many enemies; any number of people could’ve wanted to hurt him. Although I haven’t checked in with anyone at home yet today, there could be a new suspect.

Tonight is the opening of the Vancouver Film Festival, and I’m honored to have been invited as a special guest. While I’m there, I hope to reconnect with some of my director friends. I have this itch to do a fun and sexy movie … maybe something for television. Nowadays, made-for-TV movies are practically extinct. I could revitalize and revolutionize the medium.

I’m going to go do my hair and makeup for tonight. What becomes a legend most? Why, it’s Erica Kane!

Hugs,
Erica

O Canada!

I do love traveling by train. Jackson and I are on the Rocky Mountaineer train traveling through the Canadian Rockies. Although like everything in my life, even trains have been complicated. I remember one train ride with my ex-husband Dimitri and his brother Edmund that was a bit dramatic and rather turbulent. I’ll never forget Dimitri pulling the emergency brake in such rage. I mean, I can understand he was a bit frustrated because he learned that I had faked amnesia, but I think he overreacted. That was mild compared to some of the things I’ve done! And besides, it’s not like I hid a spouse everyone thought was dead in my attic!

But that’s in the past. Right now I’m at ease. Earlier this morning, Jackson and I boarded in downtown Vancouver. They served us a delicious breakfast, and the scenery is all the dessert you could ask for. The ocean, the rivers, and the lakes have all been breathtaking. We’ll be traveling into the Cheakamus Canyon in just a bit, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the glaciers in the mountains. This really is the perfect ending to a fabulous adventure.

I don’t want to miss any of the sights, so I’m going to go. I’ll check in with you all every soon!

Best,

Erica

Back in Britain

Oh, London — I’ve returned! Jack and I landed this morning at Heathrow Airport and will be flying out tomorrow afternoon. I just couldn’t resist coming back here. A London-based charity that benefits the children of Africa asked me to host a special fundraiser for them tonight. I got the call just the other day. They said they wanted to ask me months ago — but when they found out I was going on this journey around the world, they assumed I would say no. However, when they heard I went back to Africa, they thought they’d reach out. I’m so glad they did! I know with my name on the billing, we will raise a lot of awareness, not to mention money.

I am so happy that we will be going home soon. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve absolutely loved being with Jack on this fabulous adventure, but I do miss my girls and their children. Before we return to Pine Valley, we’re off to Canada. I miss the Concorde … that was the way I loved to travel back and forth to Europe.

I’m going to take a little nap before the event tonight. I have to make sure I give them everything they’ve come to expect from Erica Kane!

Take care,

Erica

Fishing on the Fly

Hello! I am exhausted.  Jackson and I spent the whole day in the Andes mountains. I didn’t know this, but it’s the second highest mountain range in the world, after only the Himalayas. While were exploring the land, I saw the most beautiful flamingos. We were told by our tour guide that they are Andean flamingos — and what separates them from others are their yellow legs and feet.

Are you ready for this? While we were planning this day trip to the Andes, Jack mentioned that if we had more time he would’ve wanted to do some fly fishing. It is very popular in the Andes. However, he said he knew it wasn’t something I’d be interested in doing, so we’d find some other activity. I went along with him, but I secretly booked us a fly-fishing excursion! Oh, I wish you could’ve seen his face when we arrived and I told him what we’d be doing. He was so happy! It was an adventure, but not something I  loved.  For one thing, the gear you have to wear is all wrong for me … although I did look kind of cute. Let’s be honest: If I can make an orange prison jumpsuit look chic, I can look like a million bucks in a fly-fishing vest and boots! I’m just glad I could do something special for Jack.

In home-related news, I’m ever so thankful my daughter Kendall will be avoiding jail time.  Liza Colby — whom I understand is working as the DA in Pine Valley — got Kendall released on the condition that she must perform community service. While I still stand behind my daughter’s innocence and believe she did nothing wrong, I appreciate Liza’s support. She’s made mistake after mistake, so she must feel good that she actually did something right.

I’m going to soak in a hot bath now. My back is a little stiff from all of the fishing today. The things we do for love …

Goodnight,

Erica

Don’t Cry For Me Argentina

Don’t cry for me, Argentina! Right now, I am lounging on our hotel suite’s deck in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. It’s a little nippy out, but I’ve been wrapped in a pair of strong arms all morning, so I really haven’t noticed. Jack just stepped inside to call Reggie, so I thought I’d drop you all a note.

Our tour of South America has been heavenly. Last night, Jack and I had so much fun. We went to this elegant restaurant and had dinner. Then, when we went downstairs, we saw that they were giving tango lessons. Jack was a little hesitant at first — but after some whispered sweet nothings and some batting of the eyes, I convinced him to get on the floor with me. It is such a sensual dance, and it was so romantic dancing together. Now, I love dancing. I’ve always been good at it. In fact, I’m surprised that Dancing with the Stars hasn’t called my agent!

Jack arranged for us to take a sight-seeing tour around Palermo later today, in a horse-drawn carriage. I can’t wait! I’m going to send some pictures to Miranda; Bianca tells me she loves the horses at Windwind. She so reminds me of Bianca at that age!

I’ll talk to you all soon,

Erica

Her Name Was Rio

Boa Tarde! That means “Good afternoon!” in Portuguese. Jack and I have just arrived in Rio de Janiero … Even though September is considered winter here, the weather couldn’t be more beautiful. The winters here are much different than those in Pine Valley. The sun is gorgeous and it makes you feel so alive.

Unlike some of the other places Jack and I have been, I have mixed memories of Brazil. Of course, I fondly recall the kind doctors and nurses here who performed reconstructive surgery on me to correct some severe facial scarring. On the flip side, I remember back in 1986 when I was the editor in chief of Tempo magazine. I was traveling with Brooke English — which I should’ve known was a recipe for disaster — and we were on our way to Venezuela to uncover a scandal at a health spa. Our plane was hijacked and we were held hostage. I’m sure you all remember hearing that; it was front page news everywhere that Erica Kane’s plane was captured! In spite of our differences, Brooke and I worked together in order to survive — and thankfully, our dear friend, the late Jeremy Hunter, came and rescued us! I miss Jeremy … He was a good man with a lot of integrity whose life was taken too soon.

I only want to think of happy times from the past and all of the wonderful times that are still to come. Sometimes, though, it’s important to reflect … because you don’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been. I know I’ve grown.

I best be off — I’m going to go watch the beautiful sunset with my even more beautiful man …

Bye,

Erica

What to Wear?

Hello! We just arrived in Germany. I do love this country. I was here in 1987 to celebrate the launch of my dear friend Wolfgang Joop’s first perfume line. While I was here, we talked about doing a collection together; we were going to start working on something later that year, but I just couldn’t make it back to Germany. Too many things started happening: I found out that a woman going by the name of Noelle Keaton was actually my sister Silver. Sadly, she died before we ever had the chance to really get to know one and other. Still, when I think back on that year, I don’t remember tragedy. I recall finding out that I was pregnant and meeting this handsome attorney I’ve been traveling the world with …

I promised myself I wouldn’t do any business while on this journey of love, but when German’y top fashion magazine discovered I was here, they asked me to host a fundraiser for them. Now I just have to find something spectacular to wear. I may call my assistant Val and ask him to overnight my vintage Egon von Fürstenberg dress, to honor German fashion.

I best be off now. Jack drew me a bubble bath and just called out that the water is the perfect temperature. In case you’re wondering, I do love that man so much.

Until later,

Erica

Bikes Make the Best Accessories

Hello! Jack and I arrived right on time in Amsterdam yesterday. It’s wonderful when travel goes smoothly. I am in love with this place! There is shopping everywhere! Yesterday, we went to the Magna Plaza Shopping Center. They have a store there dedicated to cashmere. What’s a gal to do but buy a few things?

What I find the most amazing is that everyone here travels on a bike. I had no idea that Amsterdam is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world, which is why bike theft is one of the major crimes here. However, Jack and I didn’t see (or have) any problems. Jack arranged for us to go on a very romantic bike tour that begins at Geldersekade. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very sweet guide, and then we all hopped onto a bike and journeyed through the streets of Amsterdam. Along the way, we saw the Royal Palace, the Skinny Bridge, and the Albert Cuyp Market. It has been years since I’ve been on a bike. I think the last time was during an afternoon in the park with Charlie Brent after he returned from Stanford University and became “The Man of Enchantment.” Our tour also included tickets to the Van Gogh Museum. We’re going to try to do that tomorrow!

When were in Iceland, I started looking into charities that help infants with heart trouble. After much research, I found one that just felt right; the organization has asked me not to mention their name at this time, but I thank them for being so inspirational. I made a large donation in Leora Hayward’s name to honor David’s life. A day hasn’t gone by since his death that I haven’t thought of him. Despite his occasionally arrogant, conniving, and manipulative ways, he loved his daughter very much … and gave so many people with heart problems a second chance at life.

Oh! So many of you have asked me if I had dinner with the Queen while we were in London. We just couldn’t work it out since she is staying at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She did send me a lovely little note expressing her regrets, and said she was delighted that I was in the UK.

Until we meet again,

Erica
